content of page disappeared – help!
-
my links page (http://simplyserina.wordpress.com/links/), which i formatted myself to include dozens of links that i like, has been wiped out. now it just shows a generic blogroll/links template, even though i have the links template turned off. i have no idea what happened; i only figured it out because a reader clued me in.
help! i can still see all of my links and formatting when i go to the dashboard, then pages, then click to edit the links page. it’s all there. i’ve tried editing, re-publishing, and nothing works. what do i do? what happened to my page?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Did you recently switch to the Mistylook theme? It has a “links” page template. Open your “links” page in the editor and check to make sure it is NOT set as a “links” template, but as just a “standard” page.
Your stuff is still there, just not visible since the page template is set to “links.”
-
i’ve been using mistylook for years.
i’ve already confirmed (and re-confirmed and re-confirmed and re-confirmed, lol) that my “links” page in the editor is not set as a links template. it’s set as “default template.”
i even created a new page (“links2”), copied all my content there, confirmed it was visible and working, deleted the old links page (“links”), re-named the new page “links,” and VOILA! links disappeared again. i cannot believe this.
-
OK then the theme is somehow checking and seeing the “links” title for the page and triggering off of that. Why it is doing it now, I don’t know.
Try doing this: Open your links page and change the title to “Links…” and see if things come back for you. If they don’t, change the permalink (right below the title) to “Links-1” and see if things return to normal. If they do, then leave the permalink set to the new designation.
-
i will check it out.
so is there no way to get my old links permalink back? a lot of folks have linked to me, and i get most of my hits there.
-
Yes, when I view the source code for your links page, all your stuff is there, it is just not visible since the links template has taken over the page. Most likely you will just need to either change the title of that page, or the permalink and all your hand-coded links will come right back.
-
Yes, it’s the permalink: I changed the slug to “links” in one of my (default template) pages and immediately got the same result.
-
Yes, a client of mine had the same issue. I changed the title to “Our Links” and poof, it was fixed.
-
i changed the title, but no dice. so it looks like i will have to change the permalink to keep the code.
if there is a way around this, so i can keep my permalink (simplyserina.wordpress.com/links), please tell me. very slowly. like you’re talking to a small child. this whole conundrum has me feeling quite inept.
-
Then try this: Copy all the contents when you’re in Edit for that page, then make a new page called something else, and paste those contents in exactly. Sorry, now that I think about it, that’s what my client and I did.
-
So you will end up with one official Links page that is automatic, and one called something else (I think we went with “Us in the Media”) with the links you choose.
There isn’t any way to make that permalink apply to this new page, however.
-
i changed the permalink from “links” to “linkylinks,” and now all the links are there. it’s so frustrating that i can’t keep the original permalink.
-
In my opinion this is a bug – or at the very least unwanted behavior. The “links” template should not be applied to a page called “links” unless you specifically choose that as a template for that particular page.
You might want to contact staff about this and see if they will change it.
