convert .com to .org
-
Hi there! I set up a new site yesterday on wp.com but now believe that I really need the plugin capability of wp.org. I read a bit on your site about how to do that, but it was mentioned that I needed to wait 60 days? I saw I could cancel the site altogether, and don’t really want to do that either. What is the best route? Wait 60 days and then cancel? Cancel now and just start fresh on .org? Sorry about that – I didn’t think through all of the things I wanted in my new site.

Hi there,
This guide will step you through the process of moving your site to a WordPress.org instance:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org
As we only support sites hosted here at WordPress.com, all issues with the new site – including the importing of the file – must be taken to the WordPress.org support community:
If you’d like assistance moving your WordPress.com site to WordPress.org, we have a service called Guided Transfer that does all the work for you. Check it out to see if it’s right for you:

For the domain itself, you can keep it registered with us and just point the nameservers to your new host with these steps:
You’ll need to obtain the name server values from your current host. You should be able to find them on their support documentation, or contact them and ask for the information. (Name servers may be referred as “nameservers” or “NS records” instead.)
Just note that this means your domain is still registered through us and just hosting elsewhere. So you would need to keep the registration renewed yearly with us in addition to your new host. After 60 days from the date of registration you can transfer out your domain elsewhere (there is a lock placed on newly registered domains as per ICANN rules). When that time comes, the guide below explains how to transfer the domain name to another registrar, including how to access the authorization (EPP) code:
