  The widget for cookie and privacy will not go away when ‘close and accept’ button is pressed. Instead the same page opens in another page with the cookie banner still in place. any help would be appreciated

  Hi there,

  This is a known issue – the widget is causing a conflict with the cookie banner we already show by default on all free sites.

  For now, please remove the widget, and the default banner will work the way it should.

  Also subscribe to the thread at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/cookie-banner-wont-go-away/ – once the widget has been fixed so it will work properly on free sites we’ll post an update there.
