I am about to start writing a short story blog, i truly believe in my idea and i think i might (after generating site views) sell movie rights or make a book using the context on my blog. Now my question is, do i give up my rights if i write it on WordPress? I mean, say Universal visits my blog and sees that a lot of people like it and that i’m a good writer. They then want to make a movie out of it. Does WordPress get a cut from the money? How does it work?

No – in the Terms of Service you grant WordPress.COM the right to display your material (else you would have an empty blog) – when you take your material off your WordPress.COM blog all rights that WordPress.COM have go away – they retain no rights to your work – yes the TOS and such is very dull to read but every blogger should read them at least once in their blogging career
