Corrupted WordPress?

Hello, I am working in an old wordpress account and am trying to add a new theme, but I am unable to upload it. WordPress keeps telling me the destination folder already exists? I have deleted the old theme that was a bit broken and stripped the website down to just an under construction page. I checked the theme files as well to make sure that all the files were there and the file looks good. I also am unable to download any new plugins. This website is hosted on someone else’s server. Could it be possible that the WordPress account is corrupted or that something happened with the server connection not allowing things to properly download?
