I have a domain with godaddy and i want to to use wordpress to build my site. Am I able to have a basic site for free?

It looks like you’ve set up a free site on WordPress.com within the last hour. As long as you keep https://robertsherwoodduffieldartist.wordpress.com as the address then yes you can have that basic site here for free. If on the other hand you set up a WordPress.org site with GoDaddy you obviously have to pay them. If you’ve just got a domain name with GoDaddy and keep paying them for that then you can map that custom domain name to your new WordPress.com site here but you can’t do that for free. You would need to upgrade to a WordPress.com paid plan.
