I was trying to set up an account and couldn’t find any information about why I couldn’t set up my picture which was just a picture of my dog. I noticed questions about cost in FAQ’s. There was no mention of cost when it was suggested that I set up an account. I’m not going to pay for something with no explanation of why or how much. I want to get out. I was directed here through Countable.

There aren’t any sites listed in the WordPress.com account you are logged in to. Can you confirm which site you are trying to add the photo to?

Good morning,
The site is called Countable. It’s an app on my IPad to comment and cast votes on current bills in Congress. It’s calling me anonymous when I comment. Help indicates that it’s because I haven’t put my picture by my name and redirects me to something called Gravatar which in turn brings me to WordPress. That’s really all I can tell you but if my being registered to WordPress is not free I don’t want to be registered.

It sounds like you want to set up your avatar. You can use WordPress.com account to log in to gravatar.com and upload a photo. There are some instructions here:
Many sites will only display a G-rated Gravatar — which means the image is suitable for display on all websites with any audience type. You can check and change image ratings on gravatar.com.
but if my being registered to WordPress is not free I don’t want to be registered.

Yes, the error message I got said just that. That it should be G rated. It was just a picture of my little dog. I don’t know how to get more G rated than that. I mean his private parts weren’t even showing. I’ll take a look at the rules but that’s still pretty weird.

A photo of a dog can be G rated, yes. I can see a small thumbnail of the image you uploaded and it looks fine to me.
To select that image you will need to do the following:
- Go to ‘My Gravatars’
- Click Add a new image
- Then select ‘Past uploads’
Once you have chosen an image, it can take a few minutes to update.
