Could a person’s ISP cause trouble with viewing my blog?

We just updated the blog a couple of hours ago and it looked smashing for us on Google, Firefox & IE. So, we launched it but now we are getting feedback from two of our local friends that when they view the site it is all garbled, with black on black text & links all out of place. They sent us a couple of screen shots & it really does look terrible. They tried viewing it in all three previously mentioned browsers to the same effect. We have many other viewers that have been leaving comments on posts & giving us feedback via Twitter & Facebook that say it looks great. Both of the people who told us that it is messed up use AT&T as their DSL provider. Could that be causing the issue? Is there something we can do on our end to fix that?

    Thanks in advance,

Can we get a link to the blog please?

One issue you run into is that ISP’s, to reduce their bandwidth costs, are employing invisible proxy servers (you never know they have them) and if their proxy servers are not updating, or if they have issues or are overloaded, then this sort of thing can happen. The ISPs do not of course do it on purpose, it just sort of happens from time to time.

Have everyone clear their browser caches and cookies, restart their browsers and then try again. It can also be a caching issue on their computer as well.

Do give us a link to the blog though so that a few of us can check it as well.

I just checked http://bettergeekthannever.wordpress.com/ in Safari 5, Firefox 3.6.x and Opera, and all three of them render your blog just fine. I think it is either an issue with invisible proxy servers at their ISPs or an issue with caching in their browsers.

    You’re welcome! @tsp, :)

If they’re using a router they may need to clear the cache or preform a firmware update via their router… But I would suggest for them to start with clearing the browser cache first before they move on to resetting the cache on the router or even a firmware update…

If the problem persist past those solutions then it would have to subside on the ISP’s side some where…
