Created new website for domain purchased through Yahoo

I have a domain through Yahoo Small Biz. I have been with them for 20 years. They stopped supporting WEBSITE BUILDER so I had to create a new website using a new service so that I could be supported. My question is when I transfer my newly created website from WordPress it is asking me to pay $18. Is that just a one time fee or is this an annual fee so that I can use wordpress to edit and update my website….and will my newly created website still be .com and not wordpress.com?

  • There is an $18 fee to transfer your domain, but we’ll add another year to the domain’s registration: https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/

To set it as your site’s primary domain though (so it appears as the domain and not a wordpress.com URL), you will need a paid plan, any paid plan, and that is an annual fee: https://wordpress.com/pricing/

  • Whoops, I forgot to mention, if you purchase a paid plan, that domain transfer is free.

So my understanding then is that Yahoo is no longer needed. I am now with wordpress.com and I can keep my domain name without the wordpress in the title of the website. Correct??? When I transferred the domain to wordpress, you will take over all the services that were previously provided by yahoo if I pay an annual fee. The reason for all the questions is because Yahoo was unable to provide a clear picture of what was happening when they stopped supporting the website builder I used to create the website 20 years ago. I just need a clear understanding. Thank you.

  • Yes, once the domain and site content are transferred to us, you will no longer need Yahoo. :)
