Creating a database of people for website visitors to search

  I would like to create a database of people, with very basic user-defined fields [first name/last name/date of birth/school/etc etc]. This is not for e-commerce reasons, nor is it for staff members at a company. Website visitors should be able to search the database, and I would like to link the database entry to a photograph, and perhaps a team photo in the Gallery. Is there a suitable wordpress.com theme that I can select that will give me this functionality? Or must I move to wordpress.org and find a plugin?

  Hi there,

  There isn’t a way to create a database like that here at WordPress.com. If you find another service that can create a public database like that, you’re welcome to link to it from your WordPress.com site. You can even link to it from an image, as described here: Image Links

  Another option is to create a table instead of a database, and put the table on a page on your site. We have tips for creating HTML tables on this page: Using HTML

  But if you’re looking for a way to set up a database and integrate it into your site itself, you’ll need to look at other options such as a self-hosted WordPress.org site with a plugin.
