Creating a new blog (premium) using a domain without losing the free blog

    Hi all,

I currently have a blog hosted for free on wordpress (lucianomolinari.wordpress.com) and I also have a self-hosted blog on BlueHost called lucianomolinari.com. I would like to go premium on wordpress.com to move the lucianomolinari.com blog to it but without losing the other blog (which I’d like to continue with the free hosting).

Is it possible? It’s the same blog name (lucianomolinari).

    Thanks in advande.

    Best regards,
    Luciano

  • Hi there,

So at the end you want two separate sites, lucianomolinari.wordpress.com, and a second WordPress.com site with the content currently on lucianomolinari.com?

To do that, first create a new free site via this link:

    https://wordpress.com/start/site/

Next, export your content from the Bluehost site by going to Tools ->Export in the dashboard, and import the file that gives you at My Site ->Settings ->Import on the new WordPress.com site.

    Moving from a Self-Hosted WordPress to WordPress.com

Once the import completes, if you want to use your domain with the new WordPress.com site, you need to go to My Site ->Plans and purchase a paid plan for the site. That will allow you to add the domain mapping upgrade which you need to connect your Bluehost domain.

Use a Domain You Already Own (Domain Mapping)

    Hi Kokkieh,

Yes, I want to have 2 different websites in the end. I understand the approach you suggested and I think it’ll work, I’ll try it out.

    Many thanks for your help.

    Best regards,
    Luciano
