  Could anyone tell me how to create a sign up box on my wordpress that will enable people to request my newsletter, I already have a sign up to blog updates box but was wondering if I could have another one that would ask for name and email,

  You can use the contact form feature here and either put it into a page, or put it into a text widget in your sidebar.
