Creating a website on wordpress
-
Hello, I’m deciding which option to choose between ‘transferring my domain’ or ‘connecting my domain’. The costs for transferring my domain look appealing in the first year, can you provide the associated costs for the following year(s)?
Thank you,
Alex
I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

Hi there,
Our current pricing for .com domains is $18/yr USD and this is likely what you would pay to renew as well.
It sounds like you have an existing domain with another company, and if you purchase the “yearly option” for any of our plans that will include a free domain transfer (we waive the transfer fee) plus we add one year of free registration, so you will not have to renew for some time after you upgrade.
Note: Pricing can be different for some of the specialized domain endings (.blog, .cafe, .store, etc) so if you have something less common than .com/.org/.net you may want to look up the current renewal pricing here: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/domain-pricing-and-available-tlds/
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Hi Jerry, Thanks for your response. If I were to keep the domain with the current host, and just opt to do the “connect my domain” option, would that mean I would have a url that would include ” mydomain.wordpress.com” ? I want to make sure the option I choose would allow me to have my current url without the “.wordpress.com” included.
Thank you,
Alex

Hi again,
To clarify how that would work, if you wish you can leave your domain with the current registrar, and use domain settings to “connect” it to your site here on WordPress.com.
In this scenario your site will use the custom address (not the free “wordpress.com” address) exactly the same as if you had transferred the domain to us directly.
In short, either method will allow you to have a custom site address. The primary convenience of transferring your domain to us is that you have your billing “under one roof” so you do not need to remember to renew your WordPress.com site here, and also remember to renew your domain with the current provider.
Hope that helps!

Thanks again for your advice Jerry. The transfer option does make more sense, considering the cost as well.
I’m planning to use Google Analytics, is wordpress “premium” the go to option, as “personal” would not have that feature?
Additionally, as a real estate broker, I would be interested in utilizing an integrated multiple listing service system to display listings on my site – I’m not familiar with the coding technology behind this, but would “premium” support that? I see wordpress “Business” lists plugins, codes, etc… as features which are not present in “premium”. As I’m not very tech savvy, it would be helpful to understand which platform would support a search feature such as this one on this RE site : https://www.benjaminrealty.net/
Thanks again for your assistance. I appreciate it!
Best,
Alex

Yes, that is correct. You would want the Premium plan.
I see wordpress “Business” lists plugins, codes, etc… as features which are not present in “premium”.
There are many “real estate” WordPress plugins out there that are built to display listings. A quick google search for “WordPress real estate listing plugin” will give you many options to choose from.
And as you note, you’d want to purchase the WordPress.com Business plan in order to use those plugins with your site. And just to clarify, Google Analytics is also available on the Business plan.
