Creating an academic-style course with WordPress?
-
I am creating an online academic course. While I am a college professor, this course is not affiliated, at this time, with a university. I am used to using the platforms that the universities use – D2L and Blackboard – but they are not available to me for this course (I’m free-lancing). Can I use WordPress to create the course website? I need to have the ability to post texts and online links, to hold discussions, to send announcements and receive responses from my students, and to track grading and ‘attendance.’ I already have a WordPress blog – perhaps it can be expanded in some way to serve as the basis for this course?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Howdy –
Can I use WordPress to create the course website?
Yes. I think you can use WordPress just fine. Can you tell me a bit more about the structure of the course? For example, is it heavy on videos, reading text, question and answer?
For example, you could publish the lesson as a post. Comments can be enabled on posts, so the students can reply and/or answer any questions that way. By keeping the comment moderation strict, you would have to approve their comments, this would keep them hidden from the other students who have not submitted their own yet. This would be an example of what you can do for free.
