Creating Web Sites

  Before I embark on a lot of effort trying to master wordpress I want to be clear that it can achieve my objectives.

  1) I want to use it to create a web site not a blog. I get the impression I can do that, but the persistent reference to calling a blog makes me wonder
  2) The theme twenty ten is close to the design I would like to use. Can I start with that then change the html to make my own design. It seems I have to pay an annual fee for customisaton. I want to do more than customise it, some of my changes are radical.

  1) define “web site not a blog” as a blog is a type of web site.

  2) you cannot change functionality of themes at WordPress.com but you can change the look via CSS and the custom design upgrade. If super customization or inventing themes are on your agenda, WordPress.com is not the place for you. You will need to get paid hosting and go to WordPress.org for support.
