Creating website

    Hello,
    I’m looking to create a new website. We already have one on WIX but looking to move over to WordPress as we keep our other websites with you. I have a few questions:
    I want to keep the same domain, will I be able to transfer it after I have created the website? I don’t want any downtime between transferring the two sites if possible.
    We want to have a booking and paying system in place for appointments. Will I need the e-commerce plan or business plan?
    With a booking and paying system will be receive all the details via email when we have a booking?
    With the booking system can we sync it to our calendar so the customer can see when we are available for jobs?

    For a booking system, you’ll need a paid Business Plan for sure. That will allow you to use plugins, of which there are many options.

    We recommend https://woocommerce.com/products/woocommerce-bookings/ and these are free: https://wordpress.org/plugins/search/booking/

    For using a domain you already own here, we have two options:

    Mapping allows you to keep the domain registered with your current domain registrar and direct it to your WordPress.com site: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/

    A transfer would allow to manage both your site and domain from the same place: https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/

    Thanks for the information. If I want to do domain mapping, will my current website still be running until I have completed designing the new website? Just WordPress asks me to either transfer or map before I’ve even designed my website and slightly worried it will affect my old website as I don’t want any downtime switching between the two?

    Does any of the free booking plugins sync to google calendar and take payment?

    You can work on your site using the free .wordpress.com subdomain and only map or transfer your custom domain once you’re ready to launch the new site.

    As for the plugins – you will want to check the documentation on each of them, since they are not developed by us, we can’t really advise.
