‘critical error’ message

Hello, I am trying to edit my website, but when I attempt to add pages or a activate a theme I get a critical error message and a link to information about debugging my site. I’ve read through the information on https://wordpress.org/support/article/debugging-in-wordpress/ but to be honest I’m having a hard time understanding how to solve my problem. Thank you for the support!

It looks like your site is using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but is hosted with another webhost.
We’re only able to provide support for WordPress websites that are hosted by us here at WordPress.com. For help with a WordPress site hosted elsewhere you’ll need to ask over at the WordPress.org forums:
