custom dns MX ADDS domain at SAVE
-
In custom dns, when I try to ADD or EDIT my MX record, when I hit SAVE my domain name is added.
I entered: barracuda.vom.com.
as soon as I hit SAVE the “program”(??) adds bayareaccs.com (the domain “pointed” to this blog). My email is not working and the domain host says its because the MX should be only barracuda.vom.com (I tried it both with and without the . after the com, both ways the other text is added).
Support at the domain host suggested i ask you.The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
I see that you’re currently using our Email Forwarding service. You’ll need to remove that email forwarding setup in order to use an external email service. (You can only use one or the other.)
Once you remove the email forwarding, you can add the MX record handled by barracuda.vom.com for all of your email. If you have any questions about that, please let me know.

Hi Rachel,
thanks!
I set up the email forwarding as a “patch” (and it is working). I would like to have our email server working “instead,” but unless we can sort-out the MX record and “auto fill” issue rather easily, we’ll probably just stay with the WordPress email forward. As set out in my initial question, when I put the barracuda.vom.com into the blank for the MX record, all appears fine; but when I select “save” the bayareaccs.com “addition” is made to the MX entry. This happens even if I add a . after the vom.com
Thanks for your help. -
Hi there,
Ah, I see what you mean. When you enter the MX record, you’ll need to leave the first field blank (because you want all email for your domain to be handled by your email service). In the second blank, after “handled by,” you’ll enter barracuda.vom.com.
That should look like this: https://cloudup.com/cIb2sYepe70
However, you won’t be able to add that MX record until you remove the email forwarding, since there’s already an MX record set for your domain (the one that says “mail handled by WordPress.com email forwarding”).
Just let me know if you have any questions about that.
