  Do you need a custom domain in order to show up in search engines like Google? Do you need a custom domain to be publicly viewable? I looked into Word Ads and it said my domain is not publicly viewable.

  You do need a custom domain to apply for WordAds, but your blog will be publicly visible and indexed by search engines without.
