Custom Name on Premium Site

A friend has a new free WordPress site and an older paid site at Gate.com. His domain name was purchased through Gate.com and doesn’t expire until 2020. If he converts his free WP account into a Premium account, can he use his paid domain name as his custom domain name on the Premium account?
