Customise the background of the Title on each page without Plugins or css.

    I am creating a website as a school assignment and one requirement is to have a colored background for the Title of the page. I am using the free version and I cannot customize the background without plugins or access to css. Is there another way to do it?

    Yes. You can find a theme that has this built in by default. Is there an example you can share, of what you are to create for the assignment?

    Can you refer to the specific theme? Most themes don’t allow customization of the title background, just the header image.
    The grading rubric of the assignment requires that the header image plus the horizontal navigation bar takes up at most 1/3 of the screen. But all your themes take up 1/2 the screen with navigation bar and header image combined, then the large title took up the latter 1/2 which will not fit the assignment requirement. And any user will feel that the aesthetic is top heavy. The other alternative is to change the background of the title so it works like a header image but with the title in it. That should cut down the number of layers. In fact the header image has no functionality and is redundant as it is just a layer of image. However, customization is done via css and as a student, we are told to use only the free version which does not allow css.

    The easiest way to find themes close to what you want is via https://wordpress.com/themes where you can select options to narrow down your choices.

    We don’t have a way to search by header image, but just by the thumbnails there you should be able to see the size of the header image area. :)

    So there’s no way to change the background for the title? I’m not looking to do anything with the header.

    Some themes have the title _on_ the background, almost every theme at the above link where you see the title on a solid color is that way.

    I’m not aware of any themes that have specific title-only background colors.
