i’m trying to decide on a theme to use for my Church i’m designing a website for and i was wondering about how customizable the theme i pick will be. am i able to change most every aspect of the theme that i pick or am i stuck to its basic outline and design?

WordPress.com is a turnkey operation with off the shelf themes. We cannot edit templates underlying our themes as every blog wearing the same theme is using the same underlying template. The only themes we can use are found here https://wordpress.com/themes/ and they are all uniquely designed.

Does Customize let me edit HTML?
No. Customize allows you to edit fonts, colors, and CSS only. You can change the appearance of a theme, but not its HTML markup or PHP code. If you require this functionality, please consider moving your blog to a web host that supports theme code modifications.
