the help and screen options tab in the dashboard are not functioning – no matter what browser is used

  • Hi there, I just checked this on your site and a couple test sites of mine. The two tabs were working normally for me.

If you haven’t already can you try clearing your cache and cookies?

If that doesn’t solve the issue could you snap a screenshot of what you see when loading your Dashboard?

That will help me take a look at things. Thanks!

    Hi Andrew –
Thanks so much for looking. The screen options (and help) drop downs don’t work for (elffactory.org) they work fine for 1st 10 pages which is probably what you looked at. I need to disable comments on the pages for the elffactory site — it’s getting tons of spam comments a day and I can’t get into the screen options to do so.

    Thanks

  • Ah, for elffactory.org that’s a self-hosted WordPress.org site which means our ability to look in to things is fairly limited.

Just to clear up any any confusion, WordPress.org and WordPress.com are separate entities. You can find more information about this at:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

If you’re getting lots of spam comments, though, have you checked if you’re using Akismet? That’s a spam filtering product we built specifically for WordPress sites. You can find more information at:
    https://akismet.com/

I use that on my own site and it’s what we use here on WordPress.com and it blocks the vast, vast majority of spam comments.

You could also turn off all comments on your site from Settings > Discussion in your Dashboard. There’s a checkbox there for allowing people to comment and an option to automatically close comments on older posts.
