death of webmaster

  • Unknown's avatar

The webmaster running our site died unexpectedly. I need to talk with someone at WordPress to recover our login and site data to access our account information to keep our site operational.

  • What is the URL of the site you are trying to access? We’ll be happy to take a look and see if we can help.

    Our site is glenwoodumc.org.

Our webmaster was working with at least one other church in our city as well as other companies and organizations. This may be a request you receive from his other clients as well for their sites.

  • Hi there,

Thanks for the additional info. Sadly The site glenwoodumc.org appears to be a self-hosted WordPress (also called “.org”) site hosted on hostgator.com Web Hosting, and not a site hosted on our WordPress.com service.

    You can confirm here: https://gwhois.org/glenwoodumc.org+dns

To clarify, we are not the only providers of WordPress sites, and hostgator.com also happens to offer WordPress sites, but they use a different version of the platform than what we use here. Because of this we are not able to help with your issue as it lies outside of our system. See http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ for more info.

Because the site is not hosted on WordPress.com we are not able to help directly in this case, but I do see that Hostgator has a process in place to deal with this situation: https://www.hostgator.com/help/article/death-of-a-customer

Please review that and reach out to Hostgator support and they should be able to help you from there.

Hope this helps point you in the right direction, and I’m sorry for your loss.
