  Hello,

  I can’t delete my account because I’m subscribed to Akismet (free version). I go to the “Subscription” section, click on “Cancel Subscription,” but the following message appears: “Your subscription has been canceled and you will no longer be billed. You will continue to have access to the subscription until May 17, 2027.” So I can’t delete my account. Funny and ridiculous!

  In accordance with European regulations, specifically the GDPR, please close my account within 48 hours.

  Thanks for reaching out and I completely understand the frustration, it does seem counterintuitive that cancelling a free subscription would block account deletion!

  To get your account fully deleted in line with your GDPR right to erasure, this needs to be handled directly by the WordPress.com team as it requires action on the backend. Please submit a formal deletion request here https://automattic.com/privacy/ where Automattic handles all GDPR related requests including account closure. Given your 48 hour expectation under GDPR this is the fastest and most direct route to get it actioned properly.

  But upon reviewing your account, we can confirm that your WordPress.com account has already been deleted. There are no active subscriptions associated with your account, and you will not be charged by WordPress.com from this account.
