Delete an old website with lost Ids

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello. To WordPress Moderators.

As new Digital Manager in a finance company, I have been asked to retrieve and delete presence of a (very) old wordpress personal website of one of our chairmen.

    Target Website is : https://chikhi.wordpress.com/

    Reasons are :
    – It is from 2009
    – It is about politics and the person do not do it any more
    – It shows obsolete public personal data
    – It may damage public perception of the person and/or the company

    My Problems are :
    – He/They don’t know what email was used to create wordpress account linked to this website, or can’t remember nor get in touch with the person who made it

Would you be kind enough to suggest me the procedure to regain control on it and/or suspend it ?

My employer can provide, of course, official documents that proves he is legitimate to the appropriate authority.

    Thank you.

    JV

  • Hi there,

You can find our account recovery process here:

    Recover Your Account

The forms of verification listed there are the only ones we can accept to give anyone access to a WordPress.com account.

As we don’t require any personal information besides an email address, and no id documentation to open a WordPress.com account, such documentation cannot be used to verify ownership of an account or site.

Thank you but none of the solutions listed in the provided link fit with the situation. Mr. Chikhi can provide proof he “is himself”, but not through these processes. I help him because he is not “digital friendly” and it is affecting my mission for Rodschinson Investment. I think this situation is the kind only a WP manager can solve, since I understand the security issues it involves.

Nevertheless, I used the Form to send a request but it is mainly empty because :

Do you have a transaction ID?
    – No. The initial site maker has been lost. I think it was a free website.

Do you have an activation URL or key?
    – No. The initial site maker has been lost. It must have been in his mailbox. 11 years ago.

Do you have two factor authentication codes?
    – No. The site is from 2009.

    hmm. :/

  • If you used that form, then our Account Recovery team will handle your request. Please wait for their reply.

Sorry Form can’t be send without one of the 3 checkboxes valid. (And filters do not allow fake entries in required fields just to make it sendable)… :

    Proof of Ownership
-To help recover your account, we require some information from you to verify your ownership of the account. Please note that we are unable to recover an account without proof of ownership.-

I am stuck by the machine. I need human intervention.

  • You can reach the Account Recovery Team directly via email at passwordhelp@wordpress.com. Please relay to them what you have posted in this thread and they can look further into this for you.

    Thanks,

Hello guys. I received this Email from WP Support today and I think this is turning in circle again. It looks being an automated email so I guess no human from Account Recovery Team saw my issue for real.

    What do you think ?

    Hi Julien,
-“As new Digital Manager in a finance company, I have been asked to retrieve and delete presence of a (very) old wordpress personal website of one of our chairmen.

Thanks for your message. To help you gain access to a WordPress.com account, we’ll need one of the following things:
    • An email from the email address on-file for the account, which is not the one you are currently writing from. Please copy-paste the exact subject line from this message so everything stays together in our system.

    Change Your Email Address

    • The WordPress.com account activation link, which we sent to your email address when you first registered with us. If the email you received included a confirmation button, instead of a link, you can copy the activation URL by right-clicking on the button and selecting “Copy Link Address” (this text may slightly vary, depending on your browser).
If you aren’t able to provide an email from the email address with which the blog was registered or the original activation link, I’m afraid we won’t be able to help you recover the account.
We have a strict policy in place to protect our users from third parties who might try to use our support system to gain access to other users’ accounts.
However, if there’s personal information on your blog, I would be happy to set it to private, so that search engines and users can’t access it and your blog will be hidden from public view. Just let me know if you want us to do that for you. If you have any questions about this, please let us know.
