  can i delete my free wordpress.com?

  I have purchased a domain name and hosting account with a provider. I have used wordpress for years and love it, but I got myself singed up for a free wordpress.com account and paid for the upgrade to point my domain.

  My site dashboard is redirected to the wordpress.com address and I am not interested in using that version. I would like to be using the current version wordpress 3.6

  How do I accomplish this?

  Hi there – you have mapped your domain to your existing WordPress.com site, but it’s still hosted here with us. If you’d like to move it to a self-hosted WordPress site, you’ll first need to obtain web hosting. We have some recommendations here:
  http://get.wp.com/hosting/

  You might already have hosting, in which case you now need to export your content and import it into your new WordPress installation.

  Then you can point your domain to your new site, rather than your WordPress.com site. You’ll need to do this through your registrar, GoDaddy – your name servers are currently pointed to WordPress.com and you want them to point to your new site. You can obtain proper name servers from your new web host.

  Once you’ve done all that, you can delete your old site if you like. :)
