Delete mapped domain

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I have just repointed my domain “chrishooley.photos” to a different website however the domain mapping on wordpress is still there and causing routing issues.

Can you please delete the mapped domain please? My wordpress site address is chrishooleyphotos.wordpress.com

    Thanks
    Chris

  • Hi there,

It’s not the domain mapping upgrade causing issues. The moment you pointed the domain away from us that stopped working. The problem is your browser that still remembers where the domain used to point and sending you there instead of checking where the domain points now.

Clear your browser cache, and your browser should take you to the correct site.

If you are no longer going to use the WordPress.com site, you can cancel automatic renewal or completely cancel both your premium plan and domain mapping from the Purchases page :

    Hi,

I tried that before I even raised the ticket ;-) I also cleared the cache, used different browsers, installed a brand new browser, flushed my dns on macos but typing in chrishooley.photos still redirects to chrishooleyphotos.wordpress.com

DNS settings with domain provider point to my new Squarespace site. :S

  • https://www.chrishooley.photos/ loads your Squarespace site for me. It does not redirect to WordPress.com.

How long ago did you change the name servers? That change can take up to 72 hours to propagate across the web, during which time some people might still see the old site where the domain used to point.

Please give it some time and then try clearing your browser cache again. But we really do not have any control over your domain or where it’s pointing any more.
