Delete/re-link old domain

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I changed the domain address of my existing blog but didn’t check the part where thy asked if I wanted to keep the domain. Is there a possibility that my old domain can be linked to the new one whenever someone happens to search for my blog using the old domain address?

Hope to get a response soon! This is urgent.

    Thanks,
    Parveen

Staff need details to recover the domain.

    1. What is the domain URL?
    2. What is the underlying .wordpress.com URL?
    3. Exactly which username account registered the underlying .wordpress.com blog and purchased the upgrade for it?
    4. When was the upgrade purchased?
    5. When did the refund request and upgrade cancellation, or the domain expiration take place?

I changed “parveenmaghera.wordpress.com” to “chaandbiscuits.wordpress.com”. Now, the existing links that are present on other platforms that directs readers to my site has the former domain in its address. How can I make it in such a way that when they click on those links, it comes back to my blog with the domain “chaandbiscuits.wordpress.com”? I am scared to disable the former link because I do wish to be able to use the domain again. Right now I am concerned with those who have my old link but do not have my new one, they can’t access my blog anymore…

I have nothing purchased for this blog.

    Hi Parveen,

    I changed “parveenmaghera.wordpress.com” to “chaandbiscuits.wordpress.com”

Your account is showing sites: parveenmaghera.wordpress.com and chaandbiscuits.wordpress.com.

parveenmaghera.wordpress.com was originally renamed to chaandbiscuits.wordpress.com.

Is there a possibility that my old domain can be linked to the new one whenever someone happens to search for my blog using the old domain address?

What is the domain you wish to use?

Once I know more, I’ll be happy to help.

    Hey there!!

I wish to use chaandbiscuits.wordpress.com. But i have links of my posts on other platforms with the parveenmaghera.wordpress.com domain and now when people click on that, it directs to this page: https://parveenmaghera.wordpress.com/ with blank site. I’m afraid with the new domain, those previous links will no longer link back to my blog. I did include a link on the blank site to direct them to my blog just to work around it for now.

    Do advise!

    Hi Parveen,

When you changed your site address all of the URLs were updated, including posts, pages and menu links.

I’m afraid it’s not possible for links on other platforms (outside of WordPress.com) to be automatically redirected because parveenmaghera.wordpress.com exists as a separate site now. So those links will take people directly to that site. You would need to update those links manually.

Come back to me if you have any more questions.

Hey! Yes I figured after awhile that I may not be able to do so, nonetheless, thanks for your help. Greatly appreciate it :)

    You’re welcome Parveen :)

Sorry, just wanted to ask, if i still have my domain “parveenmaghera.wordpress.com”, is there a way i can unpublish that site but still keep that domain under my account?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I realised I could make my website private, and did just that, haha!

Thank you so much for all the help Gemma! :)

    Hi Parveen,

Yes. making the site private is exactly what I would have recommended; doing so means you can keep the site address.

    Have a great weekend.
