Deleting a site I don’t have access to

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello! There is a wordpress site, ofom.org, that is still live but not in control of the organization who started it. We need to take this site down as it is misrepresenting us, The Ohio Friends of Midwives. We have a new site that we’d like people to be driven to but this site is taking up space and we no longer have access to it, to delete it. Please help me figure out how to deactivate the site and the account associated with it! Thank you! Helen

  • Hello, I’m sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your website. However, your site is not hosted with WordPress.com. It is a site using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but hosted elsewhere.

Because WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities, we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so WordPress.com staff can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers. You can find more information here about the differences between WordPress.org software and WordPress.com: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/

In this case, you’ll need to contact the site’s hosting provider, which according to https://digital.com/best-web-hosting/who-is/#search=ofom.org is Linode, and you can reach them at https://www.linode.com/support/
