Deleting Content

    I’ve been trying for a couple of weeks to delete my content so I can start my blog over but I keep getting error messages when I try to bulk delete posts. The only way it seems to work is to go through them individually which will take forever. And then I need to delete them again from the trash. Is there a faster way to do this that will work?

    Hi –

    Here are the instructions to empty the site:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/empty-site/

    Do you plan to use the same site address?

    If you are going to use a different one you can simply mark the first site as private, which will hide it from the rest of the internet.

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

    Then, go to, My Sites – Domains – Add , and register the new site address.

    I found the instructions when I first started this. As I can tell, after rereading them, this is exactly the procces I have been following, and yet I end up with the error messages. I’m in the WP-admin section using the bulk deletion/trash option. Have I missed something somewhere?

    I would like to keep the same site address, yes. I’ve considered the other options, but I prefer keeping it.

    Hi there,

    What error messages are you receiving?

    Are you wanting your theme reverted to its original layout as well? If you are also still receiving the error message, I can go ahead and empty the site and reset the theme for you.

    Honestly, I don’t care if the theme is reset or not as I can change it afterward.

    As for the error messages, whenever I try to delete posts (I had to delete media by individual posts via my phone app because it would do the same thing when I tried to bulk delete them) it comes up saying:

    Whoops!
    Something has gone wrong with our servers, and we’ve just been notified of the problem.

    This will be fixed as soon as possible, so kindly reload in a minute and things should be back to normal.

    If I try again shortly after, it says:

    Error in moving to Trash.

    I’ve been fighting with this for almost two weeks now. If you could empty it completely for me, I would be in your debt! I just want to restart my blog – same name, same location – but I’m at my wits end trying to follow the steps to empty it out!

    Ah, I’ve seen it time out of you’re deleting too many posts at once.

    We can reset the site for you, @ladyamesindy . I do just want to confirm first, this is for ladyamesindy.wordpress.com and not your other site, correct? Once we empty the site we will not be able to get the content back, so we don’t want to clear the wrong one!

    Thank you for confirming. Your site is being emptied now and the process should complete in about an hour, at which point you can start adding new content again.
