Deleting the registered domain

I want to delete the registered domain. Not looking for a refund- just want leahroche.com to be gone from the internet.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

So how do I do this? I got an email that says to verify my email and I did. But the domain still works.

  • I can absolutely help you with that.

Just to clarify, if you want to cancel your domain leahroche.com it can take up to several weeks for our domain registrar to release the domain, and it may not choose to do so. We can’t guarantee that your domain will ever be available to you again once canceled. If you have any intention of using leahroche.com again in the future, I suggest that you do not choose to cancel.

Please confirm that you understand and want to cancel your domain. Once you have done so, I will cancel it and remove the upgrade from your account.

Please let me know if you have further questions or if anything is unclear.

    Thank you!
Okay, so I have a couple questions:

I made a squarespace site instead of a wordpress site. Can that be transferred to that site?

What do you mean “it can take up to several weeks for our domain registrar to release the domain, and it may not choose to do so?”

    Thanks again!

    Yes.

You can set your A records to point to squarespace following the instructions here:

Point a Domain to an External IP Address

Please note, your domain will still be registered with WordPress.com although it will be pointed elsewhere.

What do you mean “it can take up to several weeks for our domain registrar to release the domain, and it may not choose to do so?”

When you cancel a domain, you are essentially giving up control of it. The domain registrar may release it back to be registered again, or it may be snatched up by domain squatters or other another business who purchases the domain at an internal auction with the registrar. It is a very dicey path to take if you want to use a domain name in the future. Once you have control of a domain name, do not lose that control if the domain is important to you.

Please let me know if you have any questions!
