Deleting WordPress and Gravatar Accounts

Why is there no option to delete a WordPress or Gravatar account?

If you want a staff controlled account management option then initiate a system like Skype where, to have an account deleted, one must directly contact Skype through a live chat.

Some option for removing my own personal information would be appreciated.

    Hi there,

It isn’t possible to delete WordPress.com/Gravatar accounts — since we don’t want other people to have your username in the future, we don’t delete usernames (they are kept so they cannot be recycled).

However, you can remove all of your personal information from the account:

    1) Delete your WordPress.com sites and disconnect any self-hosted WordPress sites linked to your account. (I see you’ve already done that.)

    2) If you are trying to unsubscribe from emails sent to you from WordPress.com, go to your notifications settings and click on “Block Emails.”

    3) You can also go to your account settings to remove all data except the account name and an email address. Create a throwaway email address and change the account email to that throwaway address. This will only leave the username behind.

    4) To ensure the account is locked up tightly, create a strong password and change the account password to it.

    5) While you cannot completely delete your Gravatar profile, you can remove all of your profile information through the Edit My Profile page.

You can also make your Gravatar profile private so no one else can view it. From the Edit My Profile page, click the “View Profile” link to see your profile, and then click the “Hide My Profile” link in the sidebar there.
