Design Pros: I need your expertise!

Hallo there,
I’m new to WordPress but have succeeded in creating the site linked to above on a Personal Plan. Hurrah! Now I have it I’m keen to make it look like a proper ‘grown up’, professional site. So, would one of you lovely, experienced WP people kindly take a look at what I’ve done and let me know how you might enhance it? Bear in mind that, given my novice status, I might need the steps spelled out fairly explicitly

And if you need help on how to do something specific on your site, this is the right place to ask.
But the people in this forum are technical support staff and other owners of WordPress.com sites. We are not web designers, and we do not provide design advice or general site feedback in this forum.
For the type of feedback you’re looking for I’d suggest you find out if there’s a local WordPress meetup in your area – there are sure be some people with design expertise in such a group – or there are many WordPress groups on Facebook, many of which would allow you to post requests for this type of feedback or help.
