Disabling HTTPS for website users
-
Somehow Google has found https versions of our web addresses and is listing them in search results.
When users click on the links they then get a certificate warning.
How can I prevent Google from indexing the https pages?http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=site:fso.org.uk
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
How can I prevent Google from indexing the https pages?
We have no control on how Google indexes your blog, however, we do have measures in place to prevent it from crawling your site in https://.
The good news is when I searched for “fulham symphony orchestra”, the http:// version comes up.
https://www.google.com.ph/search?q=fulham+symphony+orchestra
My guess is someone may have inadvertently linked to your site using the https:// protocol. As a result of that, other pages were crawled in https:// as well. What you can do is sign your blog up for Google Webmaster Tools to give you more insights on how your blog is linked to. Instructions on doing that can be found on our support page:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/
Here’s Google’s support page that talks a bit more on that feature:

I hope that helps! Let me know if you have more questions.
Cheers,
Andrew D.

You do have control: you can use robots meta tags or robots.txt

For now. But Google are always changing their algorithms so that could change.

I’ve already done that but it’s not listing any sites that link to the https address. And now the https addresses are in the search index it’s impossible for me to remove them unless the URLs stop working completely.

Hi again!
You do have control: you can use robots meta tags or robots.txt
That is partly true. What we do is make sure that your blogs don’t get crawled in https:// by not exposing those links and by usage of a robots.txt file. However, that doesn’t mean search engines such as Google will behave as expected.

Again, true, but rest assured that it recognizes the http:// version as your main homepage. The sitelinks that appear below it is a good indication of that.

What I’d do is keep monitoring the keywords that give traffic to your site and see if they lead to any pages in https://. It won’t do much but it will give you a good idea on how much your traffic is affected by this.
Thank you!
