Disagreement between the list and bar graph sections of my "Site Stats" feature

For the past two days, I have gotten a weird disagreement between my site stats “bar graph” (in the “at a glance” section) and the “top posts and pages” list on the right side. Here’s an example from this morning:

I tried deactivating and then activating my Jetpack, but that made no difference. Site stats are so valuable… I hope that there is a way to fix this!

    Thanks!

  • There’s more to your blog than just posts and pages. The additional views could be to your category and archive pages, which are not counted in the Top Posts & Pages list.

This explanation makes sense, but unfortunately two days ago the disagreement between these two elements of the site reporting were reversed, with the bar graph lower in count than the list of Posts & Pages. I will wait to see how this all resolves itself over the next few days…

    Thanks for the possible solution!

  • Ah, if you see it reversed, would you please send us another screenshot?

Okay, I am not crazy… check out this screenshot:

Although I see the possibility that sometimes my “views” may exceed my “posts & pages”, I really doubt lots of my traffic is going to archives or other locations that do not appear on “posts & pages” — something has disconnected my actual views (which seem to be correctly reported on the “Top Posts & Pages” from the “At a glance” and “Summary Tables” view.

The reason I trust the “Top Posts & Pages” more is that it seems aligned with the little dashboard-bar bar graph, but actually as I think about this it is pretty clear that one or the other (or both?) could be wrong as I have no idea whether my reporting mechanism via WordPress.com is working properly.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can fix this…

  • That could just be the slight difference in how often each total is refreshed. We’ll look into it.

    Thanks.

I have to admit that I check stats frequently and this is the first time this has happened in my many months of obsessive stat checking. Thanks for looking into the problem!

Sadly, I am still getting wacky stats:

Anyone who can suggest how I might reset my site stats would be greatly appreciated!!!

  • We’re still looking into this, sorry for the trouble!

Here’s an overdue update on this problem:

When the month ended and rolled into July, all my site stats started to make sense again. So, from my end this problem appears fixed.

In case you want more information on what might have precipitated the problem, there was a short period before the problem manifested itself when my server was down. Maybe this was a coincidence, and maybe this is related to what caused the problem, but now that the month has rolled over the problem seems to be over.

As always, I am very thankful for all the volunteer work that keeps WordPress and JetPack rocking!

  • Thanks for letting us know! Hopefully it will stay that way, but please do let us know if it ever falls out of sync again.
