disconnect/unlock domain name

I have an existing website on the Internet, http://www.website4fun. I signed up on WordPress.com to start a new responsive version of this website. Somehow, it seems I locked up my original website on the Internet, which I did not mean to do. Now when I go to http://www.website4fun.com it says I am not authorized to see the site. How can I correct this?

I already went to the domains section of my control panel but could not figure out what to do. Should I delete the entire account and start over again?

  • There are two steps to fixing this:

    1. Log into your WordPress.com site’s dashboard, click on Store–>Domains, click “map an existing domain”, enter website4fun.com in the box and click the “go” button. Then just follow the instructions that appear to map your domain.

    2. Go to your domain registrar’s site and log into the control panel. You will need to update the name servers for website4fun.com to:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

For more information, please visit the help documentation provided by the registrar and our support page:

I think I made a mistake by entering the name of my original website when I was filling out my account information. I would like my wordpress.com website to be totally unconnected to my original website which is currently at another hosting company. I would like that website to continue existing on the Internet (I just paid them the annual hosting fee) and I would like to start a totally different website on wordpress.com. When I am satisfied with the new website I will eliminate the old one. For the moment they need to be totally separate. I think I need to eliminate the site from my account all together. I apologize if what I am saying is not clear. Thanks. Liz

  • At the moment, website4fun.com has no connection to your WordPress.com site. So as long as you do not follow my instructions from the previous post, you should be all set.
