DNS Issue

    Hi WordPress,

I changed the DNS at my host, Network Solutions, to NS1.wordpress.com and NS2 and NS3 but it never pointed to my site with wordpress. Net Sol customer care tells me that first the site needs to populated with you before it can point to your site.

Can you please help me understand what is happening and what I need to do?

    Thanks,

    Farhad

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello there,
If you would like to map to a domain that you own from your wordpress.COM blog you will first need to set up domain mapping and pay for the upgrade.

WordPress.com does not accept domain transfers but mapping an existing domain is possible. Domain mapping of an existing domain URL that you already own and purchased elsewhere is not done free of charge. You will have to renew the domain name purchase where you made it and the domain mapping purchase here every year.

Mapping an existing domain costs $13. annually. In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from and it does not matter what that underlying .wordpress.com URL is.It does not have to match the domain URL.

If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchase a domain name by purchasing an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog.

    Important Notes Before Upgrading http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#important-notes-before-upgrading

In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from, and the domain name you desire must be available for purchase, or you must already own the domain URL.

You must be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog to access the blog’s dashboard at > Store > My Upgrades to purchase upgrades for the blog.

If you own a domain then see here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

Thank you so much for your detailed explanation. I guess there is a lot more to it than I thought and I have a lot to learn.

What does, “In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from…” mean?

    Hi Farhad,

My understanding is that you’d like to use your domain shiaorsunni.com with the WordPress.com site that you set up at shiaorsunni.wordpress.com.

To use that domain here at WordPress.com, you’ll need to map the domain to your WordPress.com site at shiaorsunni.wordpress.com. You can do that on the Domains page by clicking on “Map an Existing Domain” there. We also have a guide to Map an Existing Domain with more details.

Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)

    Cheers!
