DNS Not pointing to site after transfer, and DNS lookup isn’t finding the site

Recently moved from Squarespace to WordPress because SS is an absolute nightmare. myuproot.com was hosted on GoDaddy. I rarely transfer a site out of GoDaddy and did so without realizing it.

When I look up my site it still continues to try and go to Squarespace even though I detached the domain and deleted the site entirely.

I deleted the only record still pointing to Squarespace.

I can’t edit the site, Jetpack won’t connect, I really don’t know what to do here. I already tried multiple suggestions related to this on the forums.

  • Hey there, happy to help!

When a domain transfers in to WordPress.com, all DNS records and name servers are kept the same, which is why things weren’t pointing to your site just yet. Since your domain was still pointing away, but it was set as your site’s primary address, that was making your dashboard harder to use and disconnecting Jetpack. The best thing to do is use your free subdomain as your primary site address to continue working on your site while your DNS propagates. I went ahead and switched this for you for the moment, to get things working again.

I see you’ve updated the domain’s name servers already, that’s a great step! There were also some remaining A records on the domain that were preventing the connection, so I’ve restored the default A & CNAME records for you from the domain’s DNS page, like this:

From here, it can take up to 72 hours for name server and DNS changes to propagate, so I’d recommend giving things a little more time to settle, and then once you’re seeing your domain direct to your site, you can set it as the primary address once more from the top of your Upgrades > Domains page.

    I hope this helps!
