DNS set up correctly, but wordpress.com isn't detecting it

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve set up huleir.no to use WordPress’ nameservers, but Domain Helper (and wordpress.com in general) isn’t detecting it (probably because of an SOA record). How do I go forward with fixing this?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Did you just make that name server change recently? It can take up to 72 hours for a name server change to take full effect (that’s a process called domain propagation), so if you made the change recently you may need to wait a bit longer.

If it has been more than 72 hours already, please contact your domain registrar and confirm that your name servers are correctly set on their end.

Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)

If it were that, it should work now (registered on monday). Will talk to my domain registrar, but it would be helpful if someone from WordPress could check out if they find something on their end…

Aaand my registrar detects nothing wrong. What’s interesting is how much info I get when checking the domain at the TLD handler (https://www.domeneshop.no/whois.cgi) compared to everyone else (nothing, or only DNS records). Any help, tips or tricks?

    Hi there,

I checked your domain name again and it looks like some settings have changed since I checked it earlier. Right now, your domain huleir.no is not using the WordPress.com name servers; instead, it is using these name servers:

    • dns1.kq.no
    • dns2.kq.no

You can see that at https://www.domeneshop.no/whois.cgi by searching for your domain name huleir.no and clicking on “Name Server Handle” there to view each name server.

Please ask your domain registrar to change those name servers to the following:

    • NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    • NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    • NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

They will need to make sure to change the domain’s name servers, and not add those as NS records on the domain. Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)

Ah, there you had it. I lived in the illusion that setting NS records should be enough, but you actually had to set the name servers. Now everything works perfectly.

Sorry about that, and thanks for clearing that up!

I’m glad it’s working for you now — thanks for letting me know! :)
