DNS TXT edited with Google Domains and now WordPress website is suspended?

  • Unknown's avatar

I deleted a TXT entry from the DNS settings from my domain at this time yesterday. because there was an unknown verified owner appearing in my Google Verification list which could have been a hacker. Since I made the change a message is coming up that my website has been suspended. I was told by Google Domains to wait 24 hours before it gets populated again, but they are still showing as suspended. I contacted WordPress in case it was an issue at their end and they informed me that they have not suspended my websites and that it is Google Domains that has the issue. Google Domains have said that it is a WordPress issue. Can anyone advise.

  • Hello, I’m sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your website. However, your site is not hosted with WordPress.com. It is a site using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but hosted elsewhere.

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/

WordPress.org has complete documentation for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress.org at https://wordpress.org/support/ and support at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

With that said, the suspension is coming from your hosting provider, so I recommend contacting their support about this.

Thanks for the reply. When I login to edit my site I use wordpress.com to login. Does that mean that my site is still a wordpress.org site? Is the problem also that I transferred my domain from Godaddy to Google domains? I also don’t understand why changing the TXT DNS file has made my website go down? Any further advice would be appreciated because Google Domains are not being very helpful

  • Your site is connected to WordPress.com by way of the Jetpack plugin, but it is not a WordPress.com-hosted site.

The suspension is from your hosting provider, so you will need to speak to their support about this.

WordPress.org does not suspend sites (it’s free software you install on a hosting provider), and WordPress.com only suspends WordPress.com-hosted sites.
