Do I get my domain back?

  • Unknown's avatar

Was VERY confused and bought the wrong thing.. I did not know there were 2 different wordpresses,.com .org.. So I got a domain at godaddy, purchased a 12$ upgrade then a $30 upgrade… I really though I was doing it right… Well it was not wat I wanted! I want a self hosted blog and that is not what I got.. I wanted to get a theme and be able to use plugins..well I cancelled right away, I think less then hour later.. and now it does not let me redirect my domain… Please don’t tell me that WordPress get to keep my domain? My goodness what a mess :( how confusing ther is a .com and .org….and they are so different.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If your registrar is Godaddy your name will remain registered with them – $ 12- is domain mapping – I am guessing about the name but there is an empty site at candicewongphotography.com that is hosted on Blue Host – as long as you don’t point the name servers to WordPress.com then your site at WordPress.com will not have a mapped domain associated with it.

Ok but I did do the mapping and cancelled almost right away.. I jst did not know there were two different wordpresses.. I just see this when I go to my site..

Warning! Domain mapping upgrade for this domain not found. Please log in and go to the Domains Upgrades page of your blog to use this domain

Also when I signed up with bluehost right after and had to verify my account when trying to transfer domain from godaddy they were not able to help me until Monday, something about my account flagged.. Does this have anything to do with it? So again, I did do the mapping but canceled almost instantly when I saw that customizing blog was not the same as installing theme :(

Names can’t be transferred for 60 days – ICAN internet rule to reduce fraud – but to use your site on Blue Host you just need to point the name servers to the correct Blue Host name servers. You can leave your name registered at Godaddy and keep working on your Blue Host site as long as you have the name servers and your Blue Host site set correctly (since I can find a blog there I am guessing that you have things set correctly).

Did you cancel the domain purchase, or just the domain mapping?

You cannot change registrars for your new domain name for 60 days, but you can leave it with whoever registered it for you and use it on your next blog no matter where it is hosted.

Thank, Just the mapping, did not cancel domain. I will talk with bluehost tomorrow

  • Unknown's avatar

Oh and how do you see a blog there I see nothing but that message?

  • Unknown's avatar

The mapping for http://candicewongphotography.wordpress.com/ has went away for me and I see just a plain WordPress.com blog

http://www.candicewongphotography.com/ resolves to an empty blog not hosted on WordPress.com.

Ah, ok I see I still am unable to access admin in the new host though on my blog. Do you know why this is? I log in and all I get is that message

I’m afraid we can’t help you at WordPress.COM for a WordPress.ORG blog. On Monday your new web hosts will be able to help you. Sounds like the DNS is still settling down for that one, which normally takes a couple of days after you move it.

You need to make friends over at WordPress.ORG for help with your Blue Host site but here is the log-in to that site – remember that log-in is NOT related at all to your WordPress.COM log-in
