Do I get the SEO and back linking credits after upgrading to WP Premium?
-
Hi, I have a question: I’ve watched a few “WP for dummies” videos on Youtube, and they all start with buying a domain and hosting from some other website, like Hostgator, for example. Why would someone do that when they can get the domain and hosting from WordPress.com? I recently upgraded to WP Premium because I wanted my own customized domain name so that I can get credit for SEO, back linking, RSS feeds, etc. for my blog site. But now I’m concerned Google won’t index the site and I won’t earn these credits. Is there some benefit (other than lower price, maybe) that I’d get from self-hosting my domain outside of WP or am I ok?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Generally, WordPress.com SEO is far better than what most people can hope to achieve with a standalone self-hosted site.
I can’t tell you what to do, but my experience is that without a specific reason to take on the additional cost and work of a self-hosted site, you are better off staying with WordPress.com. There may come a time when you are looking for functionality that WordPress.com does not offer, and once that occurs, it would be time to consider switching.

Thanks. Another question: When I created my e-commerce website, I had to submit my html site map to Google and I update the last modified dates when I make text changes. Do I need to do the same for the WP blog site? I tried to create a site map to submit for the WP blog site, and I got an error message. Assuming I had no typos in my url, could there be something I missed?

You do not need to do that for WordPress.com. More info can be found here:
