Do I have to pay for WordPress Premium to map a domain?
-
Hello,
I created a site with wordpress.com in 2012, using the WordPress Free Plan. After creating my site with wordpress.com attached to the domain name, I then mapped a new more original domain name for $18/year. I still pay this fee annually, with no additional price added on, and I still am listed as having the WordPress Free Plan.
I am now trying to build a separate site about something unrelated to the site I built in 2012 by using the same process. However, I can not figure out how I mapped a domain name for just $18/year. I am now prompted to purchase the WordPress Premium plan for $99/year. Am I missing something? If possible, I would like to go the same route I went in 2012 with my new site!
Thanks in advance for your help!

Domains are no longer available for purchase or mapping individually. They are included with WordPress.com Premium. This change has been made as we work to offer the best combination of value and performance for users while still offering a completely free product for those who do not wish to purchase any upgrades.
A great way to go if you are not interested in WordPress.com Premium is to look into setting up a self-hosted WordPress.org site through a hosting provider such as Bluehost, GoDaddy, or Pressable.
