Do I have to pay to start up a blog on wordpress.com that already has a domain?
-
I’m moving my blog from wordpress.org to wordpress.com. I already have a domain. Do I have to pay money just to use that same domain if I don’t already have a site with wordpress.com?
My current blog is gamingreverie.com
Thank you!

Yes, here are the details: http://en.support.wordpress.com/add-a-domain/#i-already-have-a-domain

Thanks! I suppose I could cancel the hosting of my current domain, and then register one with WordPress correct? I’m assuming that’d be cheaper than paying the $13.00 a year on top of my yearly domain fees, right?
Thanks again for the prompt info!

Don’t cancel it; transfer it. WP only charges $5 for the domain name itself, I believe so it’s probably cheaper in the long run. If you cancel it, you risk losing control. Just transfer your domain registrar.

Sorry, I’m confused. When I go to set up a blog with WordPress.com, it tells me it will be $18.00 a year, rather than $5. Am I doing something wrong or in the wrong place? Thanks.

That notification is for people who do not already own a domain. Follow these instructions instead and overlook that notice, which is basically ad copy for Wp upgrades.

Hrm. I’ve been to that page before, and it says, “Domain mapping is a paid upgrade that costs $13.00 per domain, per year.”
$13 plus the $5 you mentioned for the domain; it will be $18 still, right? Sorry, I just want to make sure.

PS – you will need to keep your domain name not at WordPress.COM – WordPress.COM is not set up to accept incoming domain name transfers – but just follow the instructions above by @raincoaster and your new blog name will show up here shortly
You probably want to transfer the content from your .ORG install to your new blog here – Export from your old site – import to your new blog here – make sure you select transfer all the pictures / media / attachments or whatever –
You should also make a full file backup of your old site – pay special attention to the media – pictures etc. the only ones that will transfer are the ones attached to a page or Post – so making a backup of the files would be prudent

Thanks for the info. I guess my only question now is: should I expect to pay at least $18 a year for this? And if not, what exactly do I do? Thanks.

Domain mapping of your existing domain name to your blog here is $ 13.– a year
I think the $ 18.– includes registering a domain name – you already have a domain name so you don’t need to pay again – BUT you do need to keep paying your existing domain name registrar to register your domain name each year.
