Do I need to start a whole new account to make a new page for a new domain name?

My existing blog (theemptyheadedleap.com) was a straight blog for a trip last year.

Now I want to set up a web site for my copy editing business. I bought a domain name through wordpress (demonfordetails.com), have browsed themes and think I’ve settled on a few to try …

But, I can’t figure out how to:

Choose a theme that will not feature old posts on the first page, but will instead contain basic information like credentials, quotes and prices for my copy editing business.

Set it up so that if people are searching for the old site they can still find it, but if they enter the new domain name they will get the new page, and only the new page.

I’d like to do a 2 column format, simple but elegant, with prices in a narrow right column and paragraph information in the wider left column, with a header (I really like the Shaan theme, by the way). I’d like to set it up so that if someone clicks on a few subjects (also in the right column) such as, bio, credentials, references … it will take them to a spot on that single page.

If it makes it easier, here are the themes that interested me. Is one a best choice? Or a selection?

Reddle, Pilcrow, Day Dream, Vigilance, Shaan, Paperpnch, Neutra, Brand New Day, Twenty Eleven (too complicated?), Twenty Ten (complicated?), Tarski and Regulus.

    Thanks for the help!

For this, try setting a static front page: http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

Set it up so that if people are searching for the old site they can still find it, but if they enter the new domain name they will get the new page, and only the new page.

That sounds like it would work automatically. If not, can you give me an example? I’m probably just not understanding.

That’s a bit beyond the scope of what you can do at WordPress.com. You can have widgets in the sidebar, but they’ll be on the whole site. They can’t be page-specific.

If it makes it easier, here are the themes that interested me. Is one a best choice? Or a selection?

Out of those, I prefer Twenty Eleven, but choose the one that really fits you the best.

Hey, macmanx, thanks for the help! To answer your question:

I’d like the posts connected with “theemptyheadedleap” to be invisible to anyone going to the “demonfordetails” page. BUT I’d also like people looking for “theemptyheadedleap” to be able to find it, exactly as it is now. Would I need to set up a separate account to do that?

Based on what you said above, the emptyheadedleap content would be visible in the widgets if I maintain both on the same account. Correct?

CAN I have 2 free WordPress accounts? That might be simpler … and, if so, could I transfer my new domain name to the new account?

    Thanks again, Faith

  • Would I need to set up a separate account to do that?

Not necessarily. I think a separate blog under the same account should suffice.

No, just on the same blog.

CAN I have 2 free WordPress accounts?

You can only have one account per email address, but you can register as many free blogs as you want to.
