Documents refuse to update when uploaded, still exist when deleted.

  I have a folder where I upload PDFs (via FTP) so that the link on my website will always stay the same for updated files. My website won’t recognize the new file when I upload it. I’ve tried clearing the cache of both my browser and website. Even crazier, the file still loads when I’ve deleted it from the folder! I am completely confused at this point. How can this be so complicated!?
