    I had an old WordPress account from a year or so ago, but I created a new one today. On my old account I used my name as the website URL, and I wanted to use that exact URL for a new website. I logged onto my old account to delete that website and got it deleted. I am still unable to use that URL on my new account even after deleting that website I created on my old account.

    When you delete a WordPress.com site there is a very clear warning that doing so will render the site URL unavailable for future use. You’ll have to choose a new similar address (which you have already done) or you could always upgrade to a paid plan with a custom domain name (if available) without the .wordpress.com at the end. https://wordpress.com/pricing/
