  I’m just getting started and I’m afraid I may have already made a mistake. I purchased the domain I want to use from GoDaddy today. I wanted to be able to use a free WP account until I get my blog suitable for public consumption, but still lock down my domain name. I didn’t realize I would have to have a paid account in order to map the domain. At this point, I’m not sure what the best option is. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

  Hi Taneasha –

  It sounds like you are right on track. Once you finish working on your site and feel that you have the site suitable for public consumption you can then purchase a plan and map your custom domain to your account. Please note you can follow the step by step guide on the page below when you are ready to map your custom domain to your account:

  Hi there,

  Whether you registered the domain with us or map the domain, you would’ve had to purchase a plan in order to use the domain with your WordPress.com site. So, you can either map the domain over to WordPress.com or you can transfer it over. But, you’ll need to purchase one of these plans first.
