Domain

Something went wrong while trying to build my site. The domain name that I want is convictionnotice.com, with no WordPress in the name. I somehow began customizing two different sites, and the one that I was actually working on and getting ready to publish was ‘convictionnoticecom.wordpress.com’. I tried to delete the former site and change the domain name of the latter to what I originally intended. I have no idea how I screwed that up, and I have just about everything up on the .wordpress.com site that I want, with the exception of the domain name. Can you help me fix this? Do I need to upgrade?

    Hey there!

You don’t need to delete your .wordpress.com site if you want to use convictionnotice.com

Please check staff’s reply on here:
    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/domain-issues-163/#post-3132096

It looks like you’ve deleted your site, I will tag modlook to this post so someone from staff would able to recover that for you.

What you were supposed to do is set your primary domain as “convictionnotice.com”, so people will be able to see without .wordpress.com

Support document for setting Primary domain is here:

    Domains

    Thanks!

  • Hi there,

At the moment you own a premium plan and domain, conviction-notice.com, connected to the WordPress.com address, convictionnoticedotcom.wordpress.com

I see you also had a different domain, convictionnotice.com, connected to that site, but you cancelled this domain. It is still possible for us to restore that domain if that’s the one you actually want to use.

Then you have one other free site in your account at https://convictionnoticecom.wordpress.com/ with no upgrades.

So, please confirm what domain you want, conviction-notice.com or convictionnotice.com, and to which of the two WordPress.com sites in your account you want the domain and the Premium Plan connected, and I can help you get it sorted out.

It is the convictionnotice.com (without the dash) that I want as my domain, and if at all possible, the work that I had saved up under the ‘convictionnoticecom.wordpress.com’ is the what I would like to keep. It is shaping up to what I want it to be and I don’t want to have to start over.

  • @convictionnotice13, no worries. I think we can help with this.

I’ve corrected the domain so it won’t be lost, so now we just need to make sure it’s on the right site.

Right now you have WordPress Premium and the domain attached to this site:

    Home

Do you want me to move the plan and domain to this site instead?

    Home

  • Unknown's avatar

No no no! The domain that I want is convictionnotice.com, not ‘convictionnoticeCOM’, nor do I want it to be ‘convictionnoticeDOTCOM’. What I was saying was that the site that I was customizing was convictionnoticecom.wordpress.com, and the way that it has been customized and set up is the way that I want to keep it for now. I want to keep the site the way it is, minus the domain name. Again, when someone goes to https://convictionnotice.com, I want them to see what they’d currently see at convictionnoticecom.wordpress.com. I hope this clears it up. I feel like a rambling idiot.

  • @convictionnotice13, you have two custom names:
    conviction-notice.com
convictionnotice.com <- this is the one I rescued for you

You also have two sites (which are not the same thing as custom names). Right now, both custom names are attached to this first site:

    Home

If I understand you correctly, you would like the name and plan attached to this site instead:

    Home

so that when someone types convictionnotice.com they will see the dark grey & light blue site you have set up there.

Please confirm whether this is correct. If it is, we will move the plan and domains to that site.

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, that is correct. Thank you, and sorry again for any confusion.

  • Thanks, I’ve moved both domains and the plan to the site you’ve been working on.

Did you want to keep the domain with the dash in it or shall we go ahead and cancel that for you while we’re still in the 48 hour refund window on that? If we get rid of conviction-notice.com you’ll just have convictionnotice.com .

  • Unknown's avatar

You can cancel the one with the dash.

  • Alright, that’s done and you’re all set. The refund receipt may list the wrong domain on it, but don’t worry, I’ve cancelled the one with the dash.

And convictionnotice.com is now associated with your plan. Also, since you have a plan, you can get in touch with support directly here:

    I greatly appreciate it!

Does it take a while for this to take effect? When I type in convictionnotice.com, it leads to a page that says “domain has been parked.” And everything that I’ve been customizing is still up under “convictionnoticecom.wordpress address…

  • Unknown's avatar

Know what- I’m just going to do some copying and pasting from one site to the other.

  • The domain is loading your site correctly for me.

Please try clearing your browser cache. Likely your browser is still “remembering” the old address for your site, so that just needs to refresh.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Okay that worked! Thank you!

  • Cheers @convictionnotice13 :) If you need more help, feel free to open a new thread or reach out here:
